The Mandir
The Maha Rani Bhawani Maa Shakti Mandir was founded on the 8th of March, 2005 by our Guru Selwyn Churaman. It was opened on the auspicious day of Shiv Raatri and on that same day was the birthday of the Guru's Father (the late) Joseph Churaman. The mandir started with only eight (8) members including the Guru and from that time the mandir has grown tremendously, not so much so in size but rather in quality and spirit. The Guru and its members have really shown to be very much caring and compassionate to all who enter its grounds. Being a sada temple, its annual Puja is the Firepass which is a really big event every year. The mandir is open to all people of different culture and traditions. The mandir is termed "a house of many houses" being open to all religions. One of the greatest teachings of the mandir is " Serve humanity and in turn serve God"

Bhawani Kali Maa
It is said that the holy Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Lord Shiva along with their consorts Saraswati, Lakshmi and Uma Parvati Devi Created the Devi Mahishasuramardini or as we call her, Mariyum Maa to destroy the demon Mahishasur. In order to do that the devi had to kill several of his high ranking generals like Raktabeej, Chand and Mund, Shumba and Nishumba. Mahishasur could not be killed by any man or God and thus thought that he could not be killed by any Goddess. As he approach the Devi, he was astounded by her beauty and offer to marry her. As the Devi listen to him while sipping from a vessel of wine that was given as a gift on creation, she became intoxicated and angry at his proposal. Taking it as an insult, she told him that any man that wants to marry her must defeat her in battle!! Mahishasur accepted. As time passed by and as he was assuming the form of a buffalo, the Devi assumed the form of Bhadra Kali and chopped off his head. After Mahishasur's death, the devi, still furious, lost all control and started to kill everyone. When only Lord Shiva's devotees remained, with fear instilled in them, they sort refuge of Lord Shiva. On hearing their cries, he appeared lying in front of the Devi and as she was going to cross over him, Lord Shiva absorbed all the intoxication from beneath her foot. The Devi assume the form of Bhawani Kali Maa and became calm once more....
